I have decided to post different game reviews from time to time. Since I usually don't play a lot of games I will try to publish reviews each time I find a decent game. For this week I will look into some Ben 10 games online. Ben Ten Cannonbolt Attack is a unique genre of game called the rolling ball puzzle platformer. These games involve rolling a ball around maze-like surfaces, avoiding rolling off edges or into traps. Narrow bridges and maze-like paths make these tough games, but fun. Ben1O is taking a try with it now, in the form of one of his aliens, which can roll into the ideal ball. Does it play well?
A quick Review: Ben 10 Games Online
Regarding the gameplay I can say that the controls are easy enough to get used to, and the game has a fairly steep tangential learning curve to rapidly but gently introduce the player to the mechanics. The level does get difficult at one point though, especially with a couple of the minor flaws in the game.Enemies are shooting Ben1O, and it is hard to defend or retaliate. Often, rolling into one spot to wait for a moving platform, and then riding said platform, will result in one being blown to Swiss cheese. Perhaps there is just something to be said for skill.
I must say the game looks fantastic. Ben's player sprite is detailed and well-animated. Enemies are designed with equal care. The isometric platforms are simple, but well-seen-to. They look like they belong in the Ben 10 cartoon. The player and enemy sprites do as well. As a matter of fact, the backgrounds are hand-painted to the style of Ben 10 scene backdrops. They may be rips, but don't look it. This game looks really good, actually.
It terms of sound, just like a lot of other Ben 10 games online the music is awful. It's a long, repeating techno loop, and those who don't like techno can vouch for that getting draining. This game is addictive enough to warrant lots of play, which means it would be good to set up a play list first.
My final thoughts on this game? It looks great, is a little harder than it should be in spots, and is otherwise fun. It's as fun as better known games of its type such as Super Monkey Ball and Marble madness easily. This is genuinely a good game, despite its flaws.
